Former Accra Hearts of Oak striker Louis Agyemang has waded into the media banter between veteran football Coach, JE Sarpong and some footballers in the country after the trainer alleged that 60% of footballers in Ghana smoke marijuana (weed) before league games.
This statement was not taken likely as Aduana Stars skipper Yahaya Mohammed hit back at him, saying ”those words coming from coach like coach Sarpong is a disgrace and as matter of urgency render an unqualified appology to the players and GFA as a whole,”
PFAG, who are the mother body of all players in Ghana has come out through their head of player relations to condemn the former Dwarf coach comments and has charged the football governing body to pick the matter up and investigate.
But former Ghana Premier league star backed the former Kotoko coach’s allegations, confirming that indeed most Ghanaian footballers spoke ”wee”.
“Weed smoking among Ghanaian footballers is nothing new. Even some colts footballers smoke before playing so Premier League footballers smoking in Ghana is no news. It didn’t start today. We just have to be honest to ourselves and take measures to end it.”- Louis Agyemang told Angel TV.
“When I was in Ghana, I witnessed many footballers doing it but when I went to South Africa, I realised that at the end of every game, they’ll invite one or two players and test their samples. It is because we don’t test in Ghana that’s why most of the players feel free to smoke. I can say it is one of the reasons some players cannot excel when they travel outside Ghana” he concluded.
