Egypt are close to qualification for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after they whipped eSwatini (Swaziland) 2-0 at the Mavuso Sports Centre on Tuesday afternoon.
The win takes the Pharaohs to nine points in Group J, level with leaders Tunisia.
Should the Carthage Eagles avoid defeat in their match away to Niger later today, then both North African heavyweights will book tickets in next year’s the maiden 24 Nations Cup tournament.
Egypt took the lead on the 19th minute, courtesy Ahmed Hegazi’s corner kich header.
The Pharaohs as usual dominated play in the first half with their inccessant thunderous attacking display but the likes Hegazi, Mahmoud Trezeguet and Marwan Mohsen failed to capitalized on that to bang in the goals after missing glorious scoring opportuinites.
However, Mohsen finally registered his name on the score sheet eight minutes into the second half, turning home an assist from half-time substitute Kouka to make it 2-0.
The teams will return to AFCON qualifying action next month, with eSwatini at home to Niger and Egypt hosting rivals Tunisia in a battle for top spot.
