Ahead of the last two match days to complete the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifications series SPORTSWorldGhana.com takes a look at qualifying Group C and presents that each teams need in order to qualify for the finals of the tournament.
Ghana – 9 points
Ghana needs at least three points from the remaining two games to guarantee qualification – games against South Africa on 25th March and against Sao Tome and Principe on 28th March 2021.
Only two defeats from the two games will eliminate Ghana from the qualifiers and that is highly not possible. Should Ghana lose the two games and Sudan beat Sao Tome and Principe and South Africa then the standings will be as follows:
South Africa 12 points. Sudan 12 points. Ghana remain on 9 points and this is what we say is highly not possible to occur.
Therefore at least a win and a draw will be enough for the Black Stars to qualify but two defeats would be disastrous.
Two draws from the two games will see Ghana at 11 points. If South Africa also draw their two games against Ghana and Sudan, the Bafana Bafana get 11 points too. If Sudan beat Sao Tome et Principe today and draw South Africa, Sudan 10 points. Meaning Ghana and South Africa would qualify.
South Africa – 9 points
South Africa needs to beat Ghana to top the group with 12 points and then hope to get at least a draw away at Sudan to qualify.
Should Ghana beat South Africa on 25th March, the South Africans will have to go to Sudan to win at all cost to make it to the AFCON 2021.
Sudan – 6 points
Sudan needs to win over Sao Tome and Principe on Wednesday and then beat South Africa on the last match day to get 12 points.
Should Ghana lose at South Africa and win over Sao Tome and Principe at home , the Black Stars get 12 points. Should South Africa win over Ghana and lose away at Sudan, South Africa settle on 12 points also meaning the head to head rule will be applied to these three teams.
Sao Tome and Principe – 0 points
Eliminated. They cannot qualify to the tournament finals no matter what results they get from their last two games.
