Former Ghana international Nii Odartey Lamptey has praised the Black Stars for their strong defensive organisation following their goalless draw with England in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana, under head coach Carlos Queiroz, have impressed with their defensive solidity, emerging as one of the standout teams in the tournament. The Black Stars are yet to concede a goal after two matches, despite coming under sustained pressure.
Remarkably, Ghana have faced 30 shots across their opening two fixtures but remain among only four teams at the competition yet to concede, underlining their growing defensive discipline.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Lamptey commended the developing partnership between centre-backs Jonas Adjetey and Jerome Opoku, noting clear improvement in their performance against England.
“I was surprised when the two centre-backs were paired. This is their first tournament. They fumbled in their first game, but yesterday, they were superb. Gideon has the experience. The back four was solid,” he said.
He also singled out Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare for his consistency and assured displays at the tournament.
“I’m not surprised Benjamin Asare is doing well in the national team; he has worked hard for this,” Lamptey added.
The result leaves Ghana in a strong position in Group L, with qualification to the Round of 32 within reach ahead of their decisive final group match against Croatia on Saturday, June 27, at 21:00 GMT.
