Ghana’s national team head coach, Chris Hughton, has reportedly turned down a request from West Ham United for Mohammed Kudus to join the Black Stars following their match against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Sources suggest that the rejection stems from Hughton’s desire to avoid risking injury to the star player ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
According to FIFA regulations, players are expected to be released on New Year’s Day from training for travel to training camps, which commence on January 2, in preparation for AFCON.
As a consequence of this refusal, Mohammed Kudus won’t be eligible for selection in West Ham United’s match against Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday, January 1.
The forward is set to travel to Ghana to join the national team’s camp, starting preparations for the 2023 AFCON tournament.
The camp will commence in the afternoon following Chris Hughton’s press conference in the morning, where he will unveil the final squad for the Ivory Coast-hosted tournament.
