Asante Kotoko internet-based supporters – Kumapem Group – are raising money to support former stars and workers of the club who have either gone broke or are in dire financial need amidst Covid-19
The group – which has over thousand members – is based on social media application Whatsapp and has already embarked on similar philanthropic interventions having donated about 4000 Ghana Cedis as transportation fare for some student supporters of the club for a CAF Confederation Cup.
Veterans such Abukari Gariba the top goalscorer of Kotoko in continental final matches , Kofi Abbrey, Julius Agyabeng, Dogo Moro and former defender Agyemang Duah who also played for Hearts of Oak and Ashantigold are expected to benefit from to the targeted amount of at least 20 000 Ghana cedis.
The first ten people are not entirely former footballers as the Kotoko bus driver Nana Becrhie – who suffered serious injuries in the 2017 Kotoko road accident when the team was returning to Kumaso after a Ghana Premier League game at Inter Allies in Tema – is named as pert of the beneficiaries.
According to the Kumapem group this gesture will not end here as more former players are expected to benefit in subsequent givings.
