Arsenal’s Under-23 squad have been crowned Premier League 2 champions.
The young Gunners thumped West Ham 3-1 to secure the title after a stellar season in Division 1.
Terry Westley’s young Hammers have proved to be a tough opponent during their first campaign in PL2.
But they were no match for the Arsenal starlets, who cruised to victory after a double from rising star Eddie Nketiah.
England starlet Reiss Nelson opened the scoring after 20 minutes with a low strike that flew past the helpless hands of Nathan Trott.
Nketiah doubled the tally in the first half after he confidently poked home a delivery from Smith Rowe.
He then moved his side within touching distance of the title after he bagged the third after an assist from Nelson.
Arsenal’s squad have won 13 matches from 22 outings in the league this term, registering six defeats and three draws.
After the victory at London Stadium, the official Arsenal Twitter page posted a video of their side celebrating on the pitch.
It was captioned: “It’s all over in east London – and #AFCU23 are your new @PLYouth champions! #WeAreTheArsenal.”
Nketiah made his international debut for England at the under-18 level, playing a match against Saudi Arabia U19 on 22 March 2017. He scored the second goal for England in the 58th minute as they won 2–0.[7] In his next match, against Qatar U19, Nketiah scored a hat-trick as England won 4–0.
