FC Groningen technical director Mark-Jan Fledderus has expressed his excitement at the capture of Ghanaian forward Patrick Joosten, describing him as a player who is ‘fast, can create something and score a goal’ for the club.
The 24-year old forward joined FC Groningen on a three-year deal on Friday morning from FC Utrecht.
Joosten has been under contract with the Domstedelingen since 2015, but it did not come to a breakthrough in Utrecht.
The former Dutch youth player played for FC Utrecht since 2015 after joining them from NEC Nijmegen.
Due to a cruciate ligament injury, he was unable to claim a basic place at Stadion Galgenwaard for a long time.
He scored three goals in fifteen premier league games. The attacker still had a contract for one season with FC Utrecht.
“Patrick is fast, can create something, and score a goal. Exactly what we can use to complement our existing selection,” said Fledderus.
He added, “In addition, Patrick already has the necessary experience in professional football and that is a nice aspect with regard to the young group that we have.”
“In view of the young group we have, that’s a nice aspect. We also think that Patrick can develop further and we are going to work on that together. ”
Joosten had a very good period at VVV in early 2019 and that year he was even named Player of the Month for January in the Eredivisie.
