Ghana’s Black Stars on Thursday, November 14 beat their Sudanese counterparts in the 2022 AFCON Qualifier at Cape Coast Sports stadium.
The Sudanese came into the game full of believe and started the first ten minutes on a brighter note but the Ghana team took charge of the match with some beautiful build up play.
Eighteen minutes into the match, Ghana were awarded a free kick close to the goal and captain Andre Ayew stepped up to expertly hit the back of the net to put the hosts 1-0 up before half way through the first half.
Getting to the end of the opening 45 minutes, Sudan felt they should’ve been awarded a penalty after John Boye’s untimely tackle inside the box but the referee ignored the striker’s attempt to win a penalty as the continued.
On the stroke of half time, Ayew thought he had scored his second goal the match only for the referee to controversially disallow his headed effort and subsequently blew his whistle to end the first half.
The Ghanaian team looked ordinary in the second half and could not replicate their first half performance as Sudan grew in confidence.
Ten minutes to full time, captain Ayew was at it again as he brilliantly produced a moment of magic as he scored a scorcher from outside the box to make it 2-0 to Ghana.
Two minutes later Caleb Ekuban was put through on goal but failed to take his chance as he appealed for a spot kick following a slight touch.
The ended 2-0 to Ghana who boast of three wins from three games to sit top of the group before they return to play Sudan in Khartoum on November 17.
