Joshua Zirkzee is in hot form as he has helped Bologna defy all odds and comfortably sitting 4th on the Italian Serie A table.
Born in Schiedam, Netherlands, to a Nigerian mother and a Dutch father, the 22-year-old has been so sensational but has yet to play for any senior national team although he has played for the Netherlands U15, U16, U17, U18, U19 and U21.
When Zirkzee was asked about his future regarding international football, the former Bayern Munchen striker revealed that his doors were wide open for both countries.
“Choosing Nigeria? It’s not easy to say. If the Netherlands aren’t calling, then I’ll choose Nigeria.”
“Are they even calling? Maybe. The competition there for attackers is perhaps just as great as in the Dutch team. Nigeria has Boniface, Osimhen and many more attackers,” Joshua acknowledged.
“My dream has always been the Dutch national team. However, the EURO is not necessarily a crossroads. If that doesn’t happen then, I’ll look further.”
Zirkzee has made it clear that the Netherlands is his first choice but if they won’t consider him, then he will look further and play for Nigeria, his motherland.
Joshua Zirkzee has scored 9 goals and provided 3 assists in the Italian Serie A.
