GHALCA chairman Mr. Cudjoe Fianoo has expressed his view on Ghana Football Association’s step to ensure the Premier League become autonomous.
The former Ashantigold SC CEO, saying the FA, needs to take time to analyse circumstances of the league before they commence the implementation process.
Speaking on Fox FM, he disclosed that, the idea of making the light division go autonomous, started years ago but wasn’t successful because the erstwhile Kwesi Nyantakyi’s administration, feared the body would be more powerful.
“The delay of the league going autonomous is because the past administration was afraid the body to manage it will be more powerful than the FA, but i hope the current regime won’t have that idea in mind” Cudjoe Fianoo said.
He added that the past administration was in fear that the league will compete with the national team in terms of attractiveness and popularity, which brings sponsorships.
“However, we need to take have a critical look at our situation. We shouldn’t opt for autonomous league just because other nations are practicing. Assessing our finances should be our first step, then we take a gradual process to implement the idea.
“If full autonomous is good for us why not. But we need not to rush when implementing it. What I am hoping is that the current FA will not turn round to kill the initiative that has been there for years,” He concluded.
