Asante Kotoko recorded 1 -0 win over Eleven Wonders on Matchday 13 of the Normalisation Committee Special Competition at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Wednesday.
Defender Ismail Abdul Ganiyu’s penalty goal was enough for Asante Kotoko to beat the Techiman based side after losing 1-0 to AshantiGold SC on Sunday in Obuasi.
Ganiyu stepped up to score in the 73rd minute with a superb penalty after the visitors defender had fouled winger Emmanuel Gyamfi in the penalty area.
The Porcupine Warriors prior to the game, had gone three games without a win having dropped points against Berekum Chelsea, Bechem United and Ashanti Gold SC.
The visitors started the game on a very good note but failed to utilize the few chances they had throughout the game as Kotoko finally punished them from the spot through Abdul Ismail Ganiyu.
Coach Akonnor had to start his poster boy Songne Yacouba from the bench after coming on to replace Abdul Fatawu Safiu on the 57th minute with Stephen Nyarko replacing ace midfielder Jordan Opoku on the 70th minute.
Striker Alex Asamoah however, was introduced into the game in the second half by Eleven Wonders but his experience could not bear any fruit for the visitors as they left Kumasi with a 1-0 loss.
Kotoko will be hoping to pick a good score line against leaders Medeama SC on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium to keep their semi-finals qualification dream alive.
