South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has named Supersport United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams as Bafana Bafana new captain.
Broos – who won the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations with Cameroon – confirmed the decision on Monday during a national team presser organized by the South Africa Football Association(SAFA).
“@BafanaBafana Head Coach Hugo Broos has named Ronwen Williams as the new Bafana Bafana captain and Percy Tau is the vice-captain.” the SAFA tweeted on Monday.
“We are still disappointed that we are not part of the AFCON however our focus now is the FIFA Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers because we want to be at the World Cup” – Ronwen Williams.” the goalkeeper said.
South Africa, Ghana, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe are in Group G of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification group.
The South Africans start their group campaign at Zimbabwe on September 3rd whilst Ghana play at home against Ethiopia on the same day for Day 1 of the qualifiers.
