Asante Kotoko interim coach Abdul Karim Zito is aiming for a strong start to his new role as he leads the Porcupine Warriors in their push to revive their Ghana Premier League title ambitions.
The experienced tactician was appointed to take charge on an interim basis following the dismissal of Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, whose tenure came to an end after a disappointing run of results. In addition to his coaching duties, Zito will also serve as the club’s Technical Director, overseeing both strategic and tactical responsibilities.
Zito’s first test comes this Sunday when Kotoko host Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Stadium in a crucial Matchday 29 fixture. With the team currently sitting fourth on the league table with 47 points and coming off back-to-back defeats, the clash is viewed as a must-win.
Speaking to the media during his unveiling, Zito emphasized the importance of starting strong, stating that Sunday’s game carries more weight than any other remaining match.
“The fans want to see the team bounce back, and it all starts on Sunday,” he said. “Our hopes begin with the Aduana game. To me, that match is more important than the rest of the season.”
The veteran coach brings with him a wealth of experience, having recently guided Dreams FC to a historic semi-final appearance in the CAF Confederation Cup. He also led Ghana’s U-20 team to continental glory at the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.
Now back at Kotoko, Zito is determined to steady the ship and put the club back on course as the race for the Premier League title enters its final phase.
