After Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC failed to beat their opponents from Algeria ES Setif at home, a board member of the club has stated categorically that the team’s aim is not to conquer Africa.
According to him, the Porcupine Warriors are determined to win this year’s Ghana Premier League title and have not Dreamt of Winning a continental trophy.
“Our man focus and target is to win Ghana Premier League this season and prepare adequately for next year’s CAF Champions League so we can do well in CAF’s elite competition next season”, Kwasi Osei Ofori said after the game.
The Kotoko board member however stated that, if the team is able to win in Algeria it would be great news for the club but that’s not their priority as they want to focus on the local scene and win the league to assemble a strong team for next year’s competition.
“If we are able to win in Algeria it would be great news for us but we’re more concerned about building a strong side to play in Champions League next season”, he told the press.
Asante Kotoko have lost all their two matches played at the Accra Sports Stadium in CAF Inter-clubs competition this season and face elimination from the Confederation Cup after suffering a 1-2 defeat to Setif from Algeria.
However, the Porcupines are on course to win the Ghana Premier League, a trophy the board members wish to lift at the end of the season which would give them the ticket to represent Ghana in next year’s edition of the CAF Champions League.
Asante Kotoko will face the Algerians in Algeria this weekend for the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup playoffs game for a place in the group stages.
