Ghana’s Division One League board Chairman Mr. Owoahene Acheampong has blamed the Ghanaian media for over the years playing a key role in destroying the country’s football governing body brand.
The FA close to a decade now has struggled to establish a fine relationship with indigenous Ghanaian companies who intend to sponsor the Ghana Premier League, after failing to establish a lasting relationship between the FA and Onetouch, First Capital Bank, Polytank and just recently GN Bank, who have remained redundant in renewing its three (3) years expired contract with the FA.
Mr. Owahene speaking on some of the issues he suggested has been a torn in the flesh to the FA’s establishment and clutching of a reputable brand for itself told Accra based Happy FM “the press is one of the factors, who always talk to destroy the brand of the FA.
”The media will always lambast the FA from morning to evening, which mostly scares-off potential companies to come all out to sponsor our league.”
He further stated ‘’that StarTimes in the 2016/17 league season pumped $120,000 into the Division one league with GN bank toppling it up with $700,000, so now that GN bank is proving difficult to renew its expired contract with the FA it places some kind of burden on the 48 Division One League clubs to contribute GHS30, 000 each for officiating fee if the league remains being sponsorless to the start of the 2017/2018season.
Last season, the FA spent close to about GH 1.6m as officiating fee.
Upon the factored solutions as FA to curbing the confronted issue Owoahene added “we’ve tried in so many occasions to put a stop to it but to no avail”.
