Accra Hearts of Oak can breathe a sigh of relief as Serbian coach Slavko Matic and his lawyer, Cristobal Martell, have withdrawn their case against the club.
In a recent update, Matic explained that he decided to withdraw due to his relationship with Togbe Afede, the board chairman of Hearts of Oak. The coach had earlier dragged the club to FIFA over what he described as unfair treatment.
“My lawyer [Cristobal Martell] prepared everything but I have decided to withdraw due to my relationship with Togbe Afede but we will find a way to solve it because I am busy now with other things and family issues,” the Serbian said in an interview with Ghanasportspage.com.
Matic had hired the services of Cristobal Martell, a well-known lawyer who has worked with high-profile clients such as Lionel Messi and Daniel Alves.
Matic had demanded $2 million (Gh¢24,777,680.00) in compensation and other benefits, but has now agreed to rescind his decision.
Matic had replaced Samuel Boadu as head coach of Hearts of Oak in October 2022 and had supervised 16 games in the Ghanaian league before his departure.
Hearts of Oak have not yet appointed a new coach, and Coach David Ocloo is currently serving as their caretaker.
