The Player Relations Officer for the Professional Football Association of Ghana (PFAG), Yusif Chibsah insists Abdul Majeed Waris and Fatawu Safiu have received their omission from Ghana’s final 23-man squad for 2019 AFCON in ‘good faith’.
Widespread reports in the media suggested that FC Nantes forward Majeed Waris out of frustration boycotted the meeting to announce Kwasi Appiah’s decision on Monday evening.
However Chibsah, in a series of tweets shut down the untrue news, insisting both players have accepted the coach’s selection in good faith and continue to wish the team well in Egypt.
“Good morning Ghana, on behalf of @warisgh10 and @fatawusafui I wld like to make it clear that, Both players have accepted their exclusion from the 23 man squad named by coach Kwesi Appiah in good faith. As human as we are it’s normal to be disappointed in times like this. It’s ..
..it’s never true that @warisgh10 boycotted a meeting. Both players wish the Black Stars all the best in Egypt. It’s GHANA FIRST, all other matters are not necessary at this moment. LONG LIVE BLACK STARS, LONG LIVE GHANA “
The 23-man squad is expected to leave Dubai for Egypt on June 20th for the continental showpiece.
Ghana are in group F alongside Cameroon, Benin and Guinea Bissau.
