Former Ghana star midfielder Derick Boateng believes Ghana’s Black Meteors will need the services of Italy Serie A side US Cremonese forward Felix Afena Ohene-Gyan to win the upcoming CAF U23 tournament.
According to the former Getafe CF player who dazzled in the Spanish La Liga, Ghana Football Association officials must see to it that they speak to the player to have a change of mind to feature at the tournament.
“If the FA thinks about him and his mental issues, they have to take a plane there and talk to him so that he feels important,” he said.
“This under-23 AFCON that they want to go, they will need him if they want to win. They have to call him not on phone but by going to see him in person.”
“He needs to feel that we care about him because these are the things we do that make us lose players.”
Afena-Gyan burst onto the football scenes in Ghana after he was given a chance to shine at Serie A club AS Roma by Jose Mourinho leading to a Black Stars call-up for the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in March 2022.
The youngster was painfully left out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament in Qatar later 2022 by head coach Otto Addo.
He recently turned down a late Black Meteors Call-up for the CAF U-23 Qualifiers against the Greens of Algeria.
