It was the winner-takes-all at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in Pretoria. Mamelodi Sundowns welcomed the group leaders TP Mazembe with a win in mind to stand any chance of winning the group.
The Brazillian’s usual dominance was witnessed right from the onset as they dictated the game with their short passes.
TP Mazembe has been one of the most difficult teams to beat recently on the continent as breaking them down has been a huge task for opponents.
Peter Shalulile scored a penalty in the 38th minute to end the first half in favour of the Brazilians. 71% possession was enjoyed by Sundowns as TP Mazembe had just 29% possession in the first half of the contest.
In the second half, Mamelodi Sundowns continued their dominance but couldn’t find the second goal to seal the tie earlier. TP Mzaembe could not convert any of their few chances and lost their second game of the competition.
Mamelodi Sundowns finished as the winners of Group A while TP Mazembe finished second.
