Egypt U-23 national team head coach Shawky Gahrib has discussed the chances of Salah potentially joining the Pharaohs for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
As we are almost six months away from Olympic games in Tokyo, Egypt’s U-23 manager, Shawky Gharib set expectations regarding the status of Mohamed Salah joining the Olympic team
The guidelines state that the national team can have up to three players who are over 23 years old in the squad, which raised a lot of inquiries regarding Salah. R
“Having Salah on board for the Olympics will not be done through an official request to his team where he is forced to join the U-23 team in Tokyo”, Gharib told MBC Masr.
“The approval should come from the player himself, his manager and also his club’s management as the Olympics take place at the same time as the European clubs’ preseason.
“I haven’t discussed with Salah whether he wants to be at the Olympics or not and so far there have been no discussions made between myself and Klopp.
“This decision is purely up to Salah and his manager Klopp,” he added.
Gharib also explained how his side will prepare for the Olympics tournament, as Egypt are set to play eight friendly matches during March and another eight during June.
Egypt will then play four matches after the Premier League season is over before the Olympics begin on 22 July.
