It’s official ! The identity of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations mascot and anthem are known.
“Mola” is the name of the mascot chosen after the presentation of the results of the competition for the selection of the mascot and the anthem of the 2022 AFCON which took place this Wednesday, May 05, 2021.
The ceremony was held at the Yaoundé Sports Palace in the presence of the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, also president of the National Organizing Committee of the said competition.
A total of 35 proposals were retained by the Mascot jury and 100 applications were received and selected by the jury responsible for the anthem selection.
And it is “Mola” who emerged victorious as the mascot of CAN 2021. According to the jury, this name refers to the friendliness of Cameroonians.
We also learn that the choice of the anthem, whose melody, rhythm, text, contribution to the promotion of Cameroon’s brand image are the criteria, is not yet known. It will be decided between three proposals retained under anonymity.
Professors Charles Binam Bikoï and Jean Tabi Manga, respectively presidents of the selection boards for the anthem and the mascot of the competition, and their teams, we learn, are settling the last details to unveil in the coming days the final choices of the competition.
The CAN 2021 will be played from January 9 to February 6, 2022 in Cameroon.
