The 2022-23 runner-up of the CAF Champions League, Wydad Casablanca, has been eliminated from the group stage after Jwaneng Galaxy failed to beat Simba.
Wydad Casablanca fans knew their fate was in the Simba-Jwaneng fixture. The Moroccans recorded a slim 1-0 win over the already qualified Asec Mimosas through 22-year-old Montasser Lahtimi’s 18th-minute strike.
The Moroccan giants, winners of the 2021-2022 CCL, held on to their lead hoping results in Tanzania would go their way but Simba SC were even 2 goals up before Wydad scored their goal.
The journey in the 2023-24 CAF Champions League has been an impoverished one per the Red Devils standard.
Group B was won by Asec Mimosas, Simba finished second, Wydad third and Jwaneng Galaxy finished bottom.
